About NLBC 2020
A NATION AT THE CUSP OF A NATURAL BIRTHING REVOLUTION
Long awaited winds of change are blowing through India.
Thanks to years of advocacy, the Government of India and various state governments in the country have now acknowledged the urgent need to promote normal birth and eliminate unnecessary surgical intervention.
The Government of India is taking steps to create a nation-wide cadre of trained Midwives, who will be skilled in accordance with global standards.
However, this is no easy task in a country where 26 million babies are born every year, over two dozen language are spoken and the cultural diversity is kaleidoscopic. Compounding the problem is the vast disparity in the quality of healthcare available in India. While the affluent urban population has access to world class facilities, the economically weaker sections, especially those from rural India, have little or no access to quality medical care,
The challenges presented are unique and call for imaginative thought and persistent action.
As hosts of the 15th NLBC, We invite you to share your knowledge and participate in our journey as we learn from each other evidence-based options to help women experience Positive Birth, which is the theme chosen for NLBC 2020.
